These days, despite everything around me trying to dampen my emotions and actions, I am choosing to remain firm in my conviction that I will live a happy life filled with gratitude and abundance and refuse to allow anything else to persuade me to be otherwise.
Sure, I know we have seen countless articles on finding happiness. However, I have realized, and most medical and personal development professionals will agree, that true happiness must stem from within, first and foremost. It should be pursued forever in its purest form, without any motivation to seek happiness through another person or to accumulate material possessions.
On Thursday, 20 March, we will celebrate International Day of Happiness. Please join me in honoring this day and, hopefully, choose to live a life of happiness from now on.
Here are eight compelling reasons why living a life of happiness is the best and only choice to lead a healthier, more fulfilling life, along with how people can act on each reason:
- Happiness Improves Decision-Making
Reason: Happier people are generally better at making decisions because they approach situations clearly, calmly. Positive emotions enhance cognitive function, leading to better judgment and clearer thinking. Action: When faced with a decision, take a moment to breathe deeply and center yourself. Make decisions based on peace and optimism, trusting that positive energy will guide you. - Happiness Strengthens Your Immune System
Reason: Positive emotions have been shown to boost the immune system, reducing susceptibility to illnesses and promoting quicker recovery. Happiness strengthens the body’s ability to fight off disease. Action: Engage in activities that bring you joy, like spending time outdoors or listening to music, as these actions have been proven to enhance overall immunity. - Happiness Fosters Creativity
Reason: Happy people are more creative and open to new ideas because their minds are less clouded by negativity. This fosters innovation, adaptability, and problem-solving. Action: Engage in creative activities like drawing, writing, or brainstorming. Allow yourself to explore new interests or hobbies without the pressure of perfection. - Happiness Reduces Stress Hormones
Reason: Living a happier life can help reduce cortisol, the stress hormone, in your body. Lower cortisol levels mean reduced anxiety and improved overall emotional health. Action: Practice stress-reducing activities such as yoga, deep breathing, or meditation. Prioritize relaxation as a part of your daily routine to keep stress levels in check. - Happiness Increases Your Sense of Purpose
Reason: When you choose happiness, you align more with your authentic self, which leads to a deeper sense of purpose. This clarity of purpose can bring fulfillment and satisfaction to your life. Action: Reflect on what makes you feel truly fulfilled. Whether through work, volunteerism, or personal growth, create a path supporting your deeper sense of purpose and joy. - Happiness Leads to Financial Stability
Reason: Happy people tend to make more proactive financial decisions, including saving, budgeting, and investing, because they approach their financial life clearly and from a calm place. Action: Set financial goals that align with your values and happiness. Simplify your finances to focus on what truly brings you joy, such as experiences or supporting causes that resonate with you. (Boy! this item sure resonated with me… how about you?) - Happiness Encourages a Growth Mindset
Reason: Choosing happiness promotes a mindset that focuses on growth rather than failure. This mindset allows you to embrace challenges and learn from setbacks, making you more resilient. Action: Embrace challenges as opportunities to grow. Shift your focus from fear of failure to excitement about learning new skills and growing from experiences. - Happiness Promotes a Positive Work Environment
Reason: A happy attitude can transform your work environment, improving teamwork, communication, and morale. Happy employees are more engaged and less likely to experience burnout. Action: Create a positive work atmosphere by complimenting colleagues, helping others when needed, and contributing to a supportive, collaborative environment.BONUS CALL TO ACTION: Happiness Inspires Others
Reason: Happiness is contagious. When you live a life of happiness, you inspire others to choose happiness, too. Your positivity has a ripple effect that improves the world. Action: Lead with happiness and etiquette! Show respect, kindness, consideration, and share your joy, and offer encouragement to those around you. Lead by example to inspire others to adopt a similar mindset by simply being you. Conclusion:

Each reason demonstrates happiness’s powerful and profound impact on every aspect and facet of life, from physical and mental health to relationships, productivity, decision-making, creativity, and beyond.
By actively choosing happiness and taking steps to cultivate it, you create a ripple effect of positivity that can transform your life and the lives of others around you.
When each action* promotes the idea that happiness is not just a feeling but a powerful, transformative force that positively shapes our lives, we can change the world to become a better place to live for generations to come, where anyone and everyone can live a happier, healthier, and more fulfilling life.Remember:
Actions* speak louder than words; It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it that matters. It’s not just what you say, but how you say it; it’s not just what you think, but how you think. All these sayings convey the same idea: it’s essential to remember that the method of execution is more important than the task or action itself.*Ultimately, civility and etiquette are the actions that bring happiness!
